Blake Snell has finally signed.
According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner will sign a two-year, $62 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. His contract includes an opt-out clause after the 2024 season.
Snell posted a 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts for the San Diego Padres last season. He made a career-high 32 starts and worked 180 innings after previously not reaching 130 frames since his first Cy Young campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.
Yet the southpaw remained a free agent well into spring training. Snell signed two days before the Padres begin the regular season against the Los Angeles Dodgers in South Korea.
Snell isn't San Francisco's first major spring addition. The Giants also signed third baseman Matt Chapman to a three-year, $54 million deal with two opt-outs.
Following a 79-83 season, the Giants inked slugger Jorge Soler and pitcher Jordan Hicks earlier this offseason.
Although Snell was one of the last major dominoes to fall, he wasn't the last notable name available. Another prominent left-handed starting pitcher, Jordan Montgomery, remains a free agent.
Snell will headline a Giants rotation alongside Logan Webb, last year's runner-up in the NL Cy Young voting.
Webb will likely maintain San Francisco's Opening Day assignment at San Diego on Thursday, March 28, and it's possible Snell won't be ready in time to face his former team during the four-game series.
