Boko Haram terrorists kidnap Borno LG vice chairman, 2 councilors

Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have abducted the newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Saidu, alongside two councillors and several other passengers.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that the abduction took place on Wednesday evening along the notorious Kamuya village-Buni Yadi road, as the victims were travelling to Maiduguri following the recent local government elections held on Saturday.

According to Makama, the victims were intercepted while in transit when armed men struck along the volatile stretch of road, long known for insurgent activity.

"Yes, our newly elected Vice Chairman in the last Saturday local government polls, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa Wards of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State were abducted by suspected ISWAP terrorists between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi road," a source told him.

The source, further, revealed that the attackers did not stop there, as they also intercepted other vehicles plying the same route.

"They were abducted alongside some unidentified passengers travelling in a Jamatul Nasrul Islam vehicle en route from Potiskum town of Yobe State to Biu. One of the councillors abducted was the immediate past vice chairman of Biu Local Government," the source disclosed.

The source added that a Hisbah vehicle travelling from Potiskum, Yobe State, was also intercepted, with passengers reportedly taken away by the insurgents.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges along major inter-state routes in the North-East, particularly roads linking Borno and Yobe states, despite ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
