Christmas cookies are a seasonal favorite for many, whether it's baking them, decorating them or sneaking one out of the oven.
That's the case for News On 6's Kim Jackson.
"My cookies weren't always perfect, but the memories were," she said.
Now that her granddaughters, Layla and Landri, are older, Kim decided it was time to "level up" her skills and show them what their "Gigi" could do.
The family visited All Things Cake, a Tulsa shop owned by Janette Stenstrom. The bakery typically creates wedding and birthday cakes, but during the holiday season, its focus shifts to Christmas cookie-decorating classes.
"This time of year, our core focus is for our classes in Christmas decorating cookies," Stenstrom said.
Kim and her granddaughters joined a packed class filled with participants hoping to improve their skills, including some who had competitions on the horizon. One attendee, Michelle Rahn, said she hoped the class would give her an edge.
"I thought this might give me a competitive edge... get my game on," she said.
Stenstrom guided the group through each step. Each participant received eight blank cookies, frosting and plenty of encouragement.
Kim and her granddaughters practiced, icing dots turned into hearts and wreaths.
"I remember us laughing at the table when we would make them... when we decorate them," Landri said.
For Kim, the class brought her family's long-loved tradition full circle, with "more love, extra frosting and the perfect Christmas cookies."
All Things Cake is located near 71st Street and Memorial Drive. The shop offers structured classes as well as do-it-yourself sessions for families, friends or co-workers seeking holiday fun.
