Residents on Brisbane's bayside fringe are incensed over plans to allow new 15-storey apartment towers, with many saying it would stretch infrastructure thin and completely change their laid-back neighbourhood of weatherboard Queenslanders.
Well over 200 people turned out for a community forum at the Wynnum Municipal Hall on Thursday night. Councillor Alex Givney copped a brutal spray, and less than 24 hours later, others were picketing outside her ward office across the road.
"This is going to change the foundation of everything that I love and why I choose to live here," one resident told the first-term LNP member, to cries of "shame".
"We are not West End ... it will change every aspect of what I love about Wynnum, and I want to protect that."
