Council launches new project to capture 'cultural heartbeat'

A new project is aiming to capture the cultural heartbeat of Ceredigion.

Ceredigion County Council has launched a public survey to better understand what culture means to residents and how it shapes daily life across the county.

The survey, titled Culture: Opinion, Experience and Identity, invites people to share their thoughts on all aspects of culture, from music and food to festivals, language, and everyday traditions.

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, cabinet member for culture, leisure and customer services, said: "We are celebrating that Aberystwyth Ceredigion has gained the status of a UNESCO City of Literature, and that has been given because of the rich literary, creative and cultural life of the town and county.

"But the extent of our culture is not literature and heritage alone - it includes engaging with each other in a coffee morning, in a reading group, in an art or craft gallery, in a chapel or church; in conversation on the touchline of a hockey game, going to see a play, concert or panto in a theatre, village hall or a school.

"It basically means our interaction with each other, to teach and enjoy.

"What do you want to do, what is missing, what do you need to persuade you out to a hall, a school, a library or an exhibition?

The survey is part of a broader initiative to celebrate and strengthen culture throughout Ceredigion and is supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

It is available online, and paper copies can be downloaded or collected from local libraries and leisure centres.

Residents can request alternative formats by calling 01545 570881 or emailing clic@ceredigion.gov.uk.

Completed paper surveys should be returned to the respondent's nearest library or sent to Arts, Culture and the Welsh Language, Penmorfa County Council Hall, Aberaeron, Ceredigion, SA46 0PA.
