Floral tribute to be displayed in memory of beloved daughter

A beautiful floral tribute will be displayed in memory of a beloved young girl who lost her life to cancer.

The Lexi May Trust has been selected as the charity to feature in the 2026 floral bedding display at Greenhill Gardens in Weymouth.

Each year, the logo or crest of a local charitable organisation is recreated by Weymouth Town Council's gardeners in a floral tribute, with the eye-catching display providing a popular attraction for residents and visitors to the town.

The Lexi May Trust was set up in January 2016 by Carly Hopkin and husband Michael in memory of their daughter Lexi who passed away, aged eight, a year after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour known as DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).

As parents who know what it is like to have limited time with a child, Carly and Michael, from Wool, set up the trust in the hope to give families throughout Dorset with terminally ill children the opportunity to create treasured memories.

Welcoming the news, Carly Hopkin, Lexi's mum and a trustee of the Lexi May Trust, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen for floral bedding at Greenhill's Garden. 2026 sees the 10th anniversary of The Lexi May Trust being a registered charity.

"To see the floral bedding will be a beautiful tribute to Lexi and the wonderful work and support the Trust offers to families in Dorset. Pink, purple and white are the logo colours which was designed by Lexi's mummy being Lexi's favourite colours. The horseshoe represents Lexi's love and passion for horse riding and the star for being the brightest star in the sky."

The Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson was involved in the decision-making process, and met with members of the council's Greenspaces Team, including the gardeners to choose the Lexi May Trust as the charity to have its logo set in flowers in the gardens in 2026.

Cllr Nickinson said: "We are so proud to be able to support this local charity. They do such valuable work supporting children with terminal illness and life-limiting conditions throughout Dorset with the provision of memorable, fun, and special days out."
