Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara Chapter 1' has become a blockbuster, and has been receiving praise for its performances and plot. And it has now claimed the crown of highest grossing Indian film of 2025, surpassing Chhaava's lifetime collections. The period actioner crossed Rs 800 crore worldwide, beating Chhaava's Rs 807 crore total in the process.
Hombale Films, the studio behind the film, reported that Kantara Chapter 1 earned Rs 717 crore globally in its first two weeks. In its third weekend, the film added Rs 38 crore net in India and continued collecting another Rs 92 crore gross worldwide over six days, bringing its total to Rs 809 crore worldwide.
However, some industry trackers, like Sacnilk, suggest the worldwide collection is closer to Rs 775 crore after 21 days. In India alone, the film has earned Rs 556.75 crore net, with an estimated $13 million from overseas markets. An English language version is set to release later this month.

In the list of highest grossing Indian films of 2025, Kantara Chapter 1 and Chhaava are followed by Mohit Suri's Saiyaara (Rs 576 crore), Rajinikanth's Coolie (Rs 500 crore+), and Yash Raj Films' War 2 (Rs 365 crore).
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel explores the mythological origins of the story told in Kantara. Set ten centuries before the events of the first film, it features Shetty in a new role alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
Rishab plays Berme, with Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi and Gulshan Devaiah as Kulashekara. The film's visuals are handled by cinematographer Arvind S. Kashyap, while B. Ajaneesh Loknath provides the music, following the success of his work in the first film. It is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films.
