Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather is actually happening.
A boxing super-fight never thought imaginable appears to be a reality as the 59-year-old Mike Tyson prepares to step into the ring with another all-time great in Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Tyson and Mayweather are several weight classes apart, but their legacies are comparable.
Tyson is arguably the greatest (and most feared) heavyweight of all time, while Mayweather, who fought across the lighter weight divisions, was recently rated as the no. 1 boxer of the 21st century by ESPN.
The mega-fight between Tyson and Mayweather took the world by surprise on Thursday.
TMZ broke the news of Tyson vs. Mayweather, confirming the contracts had been signed.
Billed as 'legend vs. legend', the event will be an exhibition boxing match, scheduled for spring 2026 (date and location TBD). CSI Sports/Fight Sports are set to promote.
This will be Tyson's first exhibition since November, when he went the full eight-round distance with Jake Paul on Netflix in what was the most-streamed fight in history with 108M viewers worldwide.
As for Mayweather, 'Money' cashed in on an exhibition last August in a rematch against John Gotti III.
Mayweather is 48 years old, a decade younger than Tyson.
"This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen," Tyson told TMZ.
"However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets."
Tyson sent a warning to Mayweather ahead of their fight.
"I still can't believe Floyd wants to really do this. It's going to be detrimental to his health," Tyson said.
"But, he wants to do it, so it's signed and it's happening!"
Few fighters have been able to leave the sport undefeated.
Mayweather did so in 2017 when he improved to 50-0 with a round 10 TKO of former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor in a crossover fight.
Since then, it's been exhibition after exhibition for Mayweather, fighting the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa, KSI's younger brother Deji, and more.
"I Fear NO Man but GOD! Let's Get It!!" Mayweather said of his upcoming fight with Tyson.
"I've been doing this for 30 years and there hasn't been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy," Mayweather told TMZ.
"You already know that if I am going to do something, it's going to be big and it's going to be legendary. I'm the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want," Mayweather added.
