Falling tree kills B.C. woman walking with her kids during windstorm - Peninsula News Review

Chilliwack RCMP have confirmed that a woman was killed when a tree fell on her Monday afternoon during a windstorm.

The woman was walking with her two young children at Island 22, shortly after 3 p.m. on Dec. 15.

Victim Services was called in to assist the family.

Investigators were still on the scene on Monday evening, Sgt. Alexandra Greenley said. At that time, RCMP were still working to inform next-of-kin.

The woman's death took place during a fierce windstorm that blew through Chilliwack and the rest of the Fraser Valley, with winds up to 100 km/h.

A wind advisory was published by Environmen Canada at about 3:45 p.m.

Trees and power lines have come down all over the Lower Mainland Monday afternoon, with more than 40,000 customers without power at about 4:30 p.m.

Also in Chilliwack, crews responded to a call of a live power line that came down in a homeless encampment in the Chilliwack River Valley, and a tree across a rail line as well.
