Powerhouse Energy secures fresh patents for waste-to-energy technology

Powerhouse Energy Group PLC (AIM:PHE) has strengthened its intellectual property portfolio after winning a series of patent approvals across the US, Indonesia and Australia for its waste-to-energy process.

The company develops technology that turns non-recyclable waste into low-carbon energy, supported by its engineering arm Engsolve.

It said all three of its US patent applications have now been granted, including a filing covering its thermal conversion process. Approvals have also come through in Indonesia and Australia for patents linked to the steam ratio used in treating waste.

A small number of applications in those regions are still awaiting final sign-off.

Several more patent decisions are pending worldwide, with the group targeting broader protection for its Distributed Modular Generation, or DMG, process.

This system breaks down mixed waste at high temperatures to produce synthetic gas, which can then be used for electricity, hydrogen production or other low-carbon fuels.

Companies in this sector often view patents as essential protection when entering new markets, given the level of engineering expertise involved.

Paul Emmitt, Powerhouse's chief executive, said: "The continued granting of our patents provides us with additional protection whilst we continue to drive our technology towards commerciality and further supports the company's discussions with global clients. We look forward to providing further updates on this area in due course."
