'We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous death threats against Members of Congress,' they write
US House Democratic leaders on Thursday condemned President Donald Trump following his social media posts calling for the deaths of Democratic members of Congress.
"We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous death threats against Members of Congress and call on House Republicans to forcefully do the same," House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a statement.
Trump, in a series of posts on Truth Social, demanded Sens. Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, as well as Reps. Jason Crow, Chrissy Houlahan, Maggie Goodlander and Chris Deluzio, be arrested and tried after they released a video urging US service members and intelligence personnel to disobey orders that would violate the law.
"Political violence has no place in America," said the leaders.
The statement highlighted Trump's role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol and described his rhetoric against American patriots as part of a "well-documented history of attacking prisoners of war, Gold Star families, and war heroes."
"There is no bottom when it comes to Donald Trump," Democrats wrote. "Donald Trump must immediately delete these unhinged social media posts and recant his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed."
The leaders also confirmed they have been in contact with the House Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police to ensure the safety of the targeted members and their families.
