A vibrant splash of color is set to transform downtown Buellton this month as the city unveils its newest artistic gem: the California Poppy Ceramic Mosaic.
Designed by local artists Veronica Medina and Staci Curry, the artwork celebrates California's iconic state flower and Buellton's rich environmental heritage. The grand reveal is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17 at 12 p.m. at the eastern façade of the Buellton Post Office, located at 140 W. Hwy. 246.
According to mural artists Medina and Curry, the mosaic is more than just an art installation -- it's an interactive experience designed as a "selfie wall." The piece invites visitors to step into the artwork and share the moment on social media, spreading the beauty of Buellton far and wide.
"This mosaic is a love letter to Buellton," said Medina. "It's about celebrating our environment, connecting with the community, and showcasing how art can brighten even the busiest of spaces."
Medina, founder of local pottery studio Community Clayworks, considers the mural to be an extension of their commitment to community and creativity, integrating art into everyday spaces and enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike.
A commemorative plaque will be presented during the ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the city's dedication to supporting public art and cultural initiatives. The project is funded by the City of Buellton Arts & Culture program.
The event is free and open to the public. All are invited to attend, celebrate, and be part of Buellton's growing artistic legacy.
