Wethersfield man charged with DUI after Cromwell rollover crash

CROMWELL, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Wethersfield man faces multiple charges after state police say he was involved in a multi-vehicle crash while driving under the influence Monday.

The charges stem from about 6:22 p.m., when troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on the Route 9 southbound Exit 29 ramp to Interstate 91 northbound.

Troopers said the crash sequence started with a rear-end collision, which caused the at-fault vehicle to run off the roadway, collide with a light pole and a guardrail, and roll over.

During the roll, the front driver side tire came off and collided with another vehicle. State police say no injuries were reported.

State police identified the at-fault driver as 53-year-old Marvin Madison. While speaking to troopers on scene, state police said he showed visible signs of impairment and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.

He was arrested on scene. During the arrest, troopers reported finding a loaded .380 ACP caliber pistol on him.

Madison was released on a $12,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on Jan. 7.
